Description:

The local (Richland County) chapter assists those in EMERGENCY situations with vouchers for heat or electric bills, food and clothing needs and emergency shelter.

Salvation Army is designed to meet emergency needs only. Referrals from other service providers are acted on based on the emergency. Salvation Army assistance may only be received once per year. Forms are available at the front desk of Health & Human Services and may be completed and left at the front desk. A decision on the application is made within 7 days (not immediate). Messages may also be left on the voice mail at 649-5825 and calls will be checked and returned weekly. Assistance can be granted once: 12 months (except special projects, i.e., Host-a-family).

Transients (folks not from Richland County) should be sent to the Richland Center Police Department. The Police Department is the Salvation Army's liaison for such individuals, and if needed, can provide vouchers for a night at a motel and/or food.

Richland is an all-volunteer agency, so individuals may have to wait awhile for a response. Other projects of the organization are Host-a-Family. May also contact Jean for an application for a Camp for Mothers and Children - very low (and possibly no) cost. See dated message. NOTE: When calling, be sure to leave name, phone number, address and brief message.

Intake Procedure: Resource Center staff should screen and refer individual to any other appropriate resources first. If person is appropriate for referral, staff should help them complete application form and mail to address indicated. Staff should include a note about what referrals have already been made and include their name and number. Applications are located in Resource Center Forms file. Staff person can also call numbers above on the person's behalf, if situation is urgent or there are questions about appropriateness of referral.

Services Offered: Depending on needs, primarily emergency shelter, and food, medical. We also offer special project help i.e.: Christmas projects.
