Description:
The Board serves as an advocacy and planning body to influence the direction of programs and policies for individuals with developmental disabilities in the state.
The Board is also responsible for Disability Advocates: Wisconsin Network (DAWN). DAWN is a cross-disability, grassroots, statewide network of people who care about disability issues. The focus is on issues affecting people with any kind of disability and includes people with disabilities, family members, friends, organizations and others. There is a website (www.dawninfo.org), email network, and policy forums on current disability issues, leadership training for people with disabilities and their family members who want to organize advocacy projects and there are grants to help previously trained advocates organize advocacy projects. Must be developmentally disabled or family member to qualify for DAWN grants.
