Description:
IndependenceFirst has information available on products and services regarding assistive technology and adaptive equipment. Formal and informal assessments, advocacy, information and referral, and equipment trials are available through this program.
To help individuals with disabilities, family members, friends, and service providers make informed choices about adaptive equipment, and find cost effective ways to meet their adaptive equipment needs.
Goals are to assess the assistive technology needs of persons with disabilities, provide information and funding options on the full range of assistive technology products and promote advocacy regarding assistive technology. Also, services include the Wisconsin Telework Loan Program which loans funds to residents with disabilities to purchase equipment needed to work from home or from other remote sites away from the office. Loans can be used to purchase equipment, training to use equipment, extended warranties and cost of repairs or maintenance. Eligibility for loans is considered favorable when related to employment or work related activities.
Independence First contracts with the WisTech Assistive Technology Program of the Office of Independence and Employment of the State of Wisconsin.
