Description:
The House of Peace Community Center (HOP) assists the needy and less fortunate with free services such as food and clothing. The HOP sponsors a number of students by awarding financial scholarships to local, private high schools. Participating students are required to provide community service throughout the year. To be considered for the program, students must set an academic goal and be interviewed by a panel of educators. Referrals to other agencies are given including services for unwed mothers, teenagers and families.
House of Peace offers medical assessments, limited primary care services, and routine cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure screening. Primary care services are provided by a nurse practitioner one morning/afternoon a week at varying times/days. Individuals without medical insurance coverage and who require more extensive medical treatment are referred to community health providers willing to provide services on a sliding scale.
