The hospital is a 87 bed, highly affiliated acute care facility providing comprehensive tertiary care in medicine, surgery, neurology, and psychiatry. Approximately 1240 professional, administrative, and support personnel provide the widest range of services (including hospice care) to the more than 34,000 veterans treated annually, either as inpatients or outpatients. The hospital and the university share many resources, including nuclear medicine, angiography, autopsy, and organ transplantation program.
Memory Assessment Clinic
The Memory Assessment Clinic is a consult clinic. Patients seen in this clinic receive an evaluation by a social worker (interviews caregiver, provides information for community services, provides information and forms for completion of advanced directives), a neuropsychologist, a geriatrician and an audiologist. There is a waiting list for these services (Approx. 9 month wait for an appointment).
Referrals received in this clinic are generally to
1)assist with diagnosis
2)assist with determination of medication therapy
3) determine decisional capacity
4) assist with planning for future
5) assist with behavioral management related to complications of dementia.
Eligibility is Individually determined based on veteran's military service.
