AARP Driver Safety offers several programs and classes to ensure mature drivers are safe behind the wheel. Some programs include: Fees are $12 for members, $14 non members.
CarFit - Program events are designed to provide a quick but comprehensive check of how sell you and your vehicle work together. A trained professional will ask you simple questions and complete a 12-point CarFit checklist. The entire process takes about 20 minutes, and you leave with recommended care adjustments and adaptations, a list of resources in your area and greater peace of mind. We Need to Talk (Family Conversations with Older Drivers) - Provides participants with a 90 minute seminar led by trained facilitators. They will lead discussions on topics such as when it is a good time to talk with older family members or friends about their driving, who should open the discussion, what are the warning signs that an older driver should limit or stop driving, and how to develop a transportation plan that will still allow the older adult to get out and remain a part of their community. This is an four hour refresher course to help older adults with age related changes that could affect their driving including vision, hearing and mobility issues.
