Description:
The mission of the Circles of Support program is to provide recently released prisoners with a support network of local volunteers (a Circle) that provides guidance, mentoring, and direction to the offender in all areas of his/her life - employment, education, housing and social. The idea is that this elevated level of support will help the person more effectively transition back into the community thereby reducing the likelihood that he/she will re-offend.
Circles of Support meets at First United Methodist church on Madison and Howe St. every Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:00pm. A woman's Circles of Support meets at the Aging & Disability Rescource Center, 300 S Adams St on Tuesdays from 5;30pm to 7:00pm. Participation is voluntary and referrals are from probation and parole, social service agencies, families, or self referral.
