Adult Protective Services (APS)
Adult Protective Services are those services provided to insure the safety and well-being of elders (age 60+) and adults with disabilities (age 18-59). Interventions provided by Adult Protective Services include receiving reports of adult abuse, financial exploitation or neglect, investigating these reports, case planning, monitoring and evaluating. In addition to casework services, Adult Protection arranges for emergent needs such as medical, financial, legal, housing or supportive services. Services are provided in a manner in which the client’s rights are respected.
Our APS worker also works with the courts regarding guardianship matters. The County will petition the court for guardianship if the person meets Medical Assistance guidelines. The order mandates that a comprehensive evaluation be completed prior to a guardianship hearing as well as an annual review of the ward to ensure that guardianship continues to be necessary, if a protective placement is necessary.
