The Section 8 Program is funded by the federal government on the basis of a number of housing assistance vouchers for low and moderate-income persons. The Housing Choice Voucher Program, also known as Section 8, assists households with their monthly rent and utilities. Under this program, a monthly rent payment is made to your landlord on behalf of your household.
Department activities involve to a large extent the administration of federally and state funded programs. The central programs are the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and the Section 8 Rental Assistance Programs. The CDBG Program funds a fairly broad range of housing, neighborhood and downtown activities subject to a number of exceptions and limitations.
Neighborhood Services provides assistance in the way of Property Maintenance to citizens wishing to report City ordinance violations, i.e. trash and debris in the yard, junk vehicles, etc.
