Description:
The Katie Beckett Program Consultants facilitate families' applications for enrollments and recertification. The program allows certain children with long term disabilities or complex medical needs, living at home with their families, to obtain a Medicaid card.
Contact the Katie Beckett Consultant located in the region where the child lives. (See map online for location nearest you) The Katie Beckett Consultant will talk with a family about what the program offers and whether or not the family should apply on behalf of the child. The consultant will send an application packet and arrange a home visit to meet the child, go over the application materials and answer questions.
The Katie Beckett consultant assists families who are applying for the Wisconsin Medicaid KBP. The KBP Consultant does not determine final eligibility for the KBP. If the Katie Beckett Program application is approved, the child will receive a Forward Health Card which can be used to pay for services and equipment allowed under the Wisconsin Medicaid Program. All rules and benefits for the Wisconsin Medicaid Program apply to children who receive the MA card under the Katie Beckett Program.
Children who are not eligible for other Medicaid (MA) programs because the income or assets of their parents are too high, may be eligible for MA through the Katie Beckett Program, if they meet all the following eligibility criteria:
*The child is under 19 years of age and determined to be disabled by standards in the Social Security Act
*Requires a level of care at home that is typically provided in a hospital or nursing facility
*Can be provided safe and appropriate care in the family home
*As an individual, does not have incomes or assets in his or her name in excess of the current standards for a child living in an institution
*Does not incur a cost of care at home to the Medical Assistance program that exceeds the cost MA would pay if the child were in an institution
