Description:
The Marquette County Veteran's Office is the point of contact for all veterans benefits programs, both federal and state. The services provided range from educational entitlements to pensions, nursing home, burial benefits, and VA medical care.
Some of the programs offered to veterans by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA) include the following: medical care in USDVA Medical Centers which include, Milwaukee, Madison, Tomah, the VA outpatient clinic in Appleton, and this Wisconsin Rapids Clinic; home loan guaranty housing program, veterans pensions, compensation for service-connected disabilities, education benefits, vocational rehabilitation and counseling, government life and burial benefits.
In addition to the federal programs, the State of Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs offers a full-array of programs. These include the primary mortgage home loans, home improvement loans, personal loans, aid to needy veterans, retraining grants, veterans education program, veterans assistance program, and the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. Some of these state and federal programs are also open to veterans surviving dependents.
In addition to assistance in applying for state and federal VA benefits, many other services are provided by the Veterans Service Office. These include insuring the recording of the veterans' Military Separation (DD Form 214),referrals for drug and alcohol or post traumatic stress disorders treatment, or for help untangling bureaucratic red tape in the VA or WDVA systems.
The Veterans Service Office maintains a financial relief fund that is overseen by a three-member commission; it is used as an emergency aid for very short-term financial assistances. CVSOs also distribute flag holders to be placed on veterans' graves.
