Description:
Provides basic and specialized law enforcement sevices in a jurisdiction that covers over 1300 square miles with a present population of over 33,000. The sheriff's department consists of the communications/corrections patrol, detective bureau, reserve division and administrative divisions. This also includes the clerical staff and jail nurse. The communications/corrections deputies staff the county's jail facility (126 ) beds, as well as maintaining the county E-911 dispatch center. The patrol deputy's primary function is traffic enforcement. They also investigate traffic crashes and conduct other basic field operations. The detective division handles all facets of criminal investigations assigned to them. The reserve deputies assists the sheriff's department, particularly in the summer months, in providing law enforcement in our county parks, as well as assisting at various county carnivals and events which take place throughout the year. The administrative division oversees the day-to-day operations of the sheriff's department.
There are other programs and specialized services that the Clark County Sheriff's Department provides. The sheriff's department proudly supports the DARE program. A deputy teaches DARE to students in several of our Clark County Schools. This deputy also provides "just the Facts", a public service information notice, to your citizens throughout the county via local newspapers and broadcasts on the local radio station.
The recreational deputy's duties are to enforce the ATV, snowmobile, boating regulations and
county ordinances. They cite violations that occur in our county. The deputy conducts educational type meetings and hancles recreation type concerns for the citizens.
