Known as "Red Tape Cutters" Benefit Specialists are trained by attorneys under contract with the Area Agency on Aging to provide technical assistance to anyone over the age of 60. Issues include, but are not limited to: Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security, Medical Assistance, Consumer Problems, Age Discrimination in Employment, Homestead Tax Credit, Housing Problems, Supportive Home Services, Food Share, Veteran's Administration Benefits, Other Legal and Benefit Problems. You can talk to an Elderly Benefit Specialist on the phone, make an appointment to meet at their office at the Commission on Aging, at your local meal site, or, if necessary, in your home. There is no fee for services, but donations are accepted and are used to provide additional services to clients. Office located in the Vilas County ADRC.
